WPSU Penn State is seeking an energetic, dynamic and creative individual to fill an open position with our award-winning sports production team. The Producer/Director will work under the direction of the Executive Producer and Lead Producer within the sports unit to design, conceptualize and create content for a wide variety of distribution platforms such as broadcast television, web, and live events in support of Penn State’s Intercollegiate Athletics program. The Producer/Director will mentor and work directly with other production support staff, including students and interns. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A successful Producer/Director will demonstrate strong organizational skills, creative storytelling ability and a contemporary visual style. The flexibility to work non-traditional hours and travel as needed are critical to this position. Strong editing skills on non-linear platforms are important. Additional skills at videography, multimedia, and working with clients on media projects are preferred. The Producer/Director must have an appreciation for working with diverse audiences. WPSU Penn State not only houses the region’s National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations, but also develops national documentary film and education initiatives to raise awareness of important social issues, and works with a multitude of on-campus clients to deliver web, video and interactive solutions that promote Penn State and its mission. Our busy and growing multimedia team seeks a web development talent who enjoys learning new techniques, has a strong understanding of user experience, and loves the web. This job bridges design and development, but your focus will primarily be HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management system (CMS) installation, configuration, and customization. Core CMS development platforms include Craft, ExpressionEngine, and WordPress which all utilize PHP/MySQL. Core scripting tasks utilize MVC frameworks (Angular.js/React) and JavaScript (jQuery, vanilla javascript). Familiarity with other front-end frameworks (Bootstrap) and CSS preprocessors required. It would be a bonus if you have skills in Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal experience, knowledge of web accessibility, and understanding of web optimization techniques. You will create templates and prototypes at the beginning of development while working with content experts, designers, and developers to complete the implementation and launch. You’ll enjoy a team-oriented, casual atmosphere conducive to maximizing your potential but must be comfortable discussing and contributing ideas at any stage of the process. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. Operate under the direction of a Supervisor, Producer/Director, and/or client to realize the creative vision of video and audio projects, such as regional broadcasts, national broadcasts, athletic game day videos, and documentaries. Set-up and operate video recording, audio, and lighting equipment, in studio and on location. Apply the technical aspects of light, lenses, filters, and camera settings to achieve the desired effects. Use cameras in any of several different camera mounts, such as stationary, track-mounted, or crane-mounted. Participate in surveys for remote production locations and in the planning of production design and approach, settings, lighting, microphone placement, and cable runs. Determine availability of power for lighting and audio needs. Organize raw footage; prepare and revise edit decision lists, as needed. Edit video and audio materials. Log and archive materials according to established data asset management guidelines. Coordinate and provide Producer/Director with production materials such as music cuts, stills, graphics, and visual elements for studio and remote production needs. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, such as camera pedestals, lighting equipment, audio equipment, and other professional equipment. Notify maintenance technicians in a timely manner when equipment is not functioning properly. Maintain and update equipment checklists, tracking equipment condition and availability. Make recommendations to Supervisor when stocks of parts, components, or other materials need to be replenished, and when new equipment, editing platforms, etc., may be needed. Evaluate completed products for adherence to established technical standards. Log required information on production order forms, timesheets, discrepancy reports, and other report forms as required. Answer questions for, train, and provide direction to other technical-service and part-time employees/students, as needed. Operate University vehicles. Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience. 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES.
